Stories we love

All across Manchester, there are individuals, organisations and groups that are working together to do their bit for their community. These community heroes go that extra mile to support their neighbourhood and make the City a greener, cleaner and happier place to be.

Although they might not shout about the amazing work that they are doing - we want to! Throughout this programme we’ll be celebrating and sharing the stories of the amazing people and projects across the city, because when it comes to tackling climate change and looking after our environment, we are all in it together. It’s #InOurNature.

"What does community climate action mean to you?"

"To me it means getting out and doing something positive rather than talking about it. I think that it is easy to feel like you can have no influence over the climate emergency when tackling the problem as an individual. Becoming involved with your local community makes you feel empowered because people in positions of power have to listen to your wishes - it's suddenly in their interest to."

“What would be your top tip for people in Manchester who want to take action at home or in their communities?"

"My top tip would be to search for a local group that aligns with the way you want to take action. There are organisations such as SalfordCVS and MACC that can help you find the right organisation. Join up and help out. If you can't find an organisation that does what you want through these channels then that probably means there isn't one! Find some like minded people and start a group, there are plenty of people willing to give you advice on how to do this."

"What does community climate action mean to you?"

"It means a collective responsibility between neighbours and friends to help respond to the negative impacts of climate change both locally and globally."

“What would be your top tip for people in Manchester who want to take action at home or in their communities?"

"Find your local community garden! These gardens are always a real hotbed of activity and imagination, and a great way to meet new, likeminded people."

"What does community climate action mean to you?"

"That individuals understand the important role they play to help undo the damage already done by the fashion industry. Not only do we need strong national policy but also collaborative action between policy makers, businesses and civil society at a local level."

“What would be your top tip for people in Manchester who want to take action at home or in their communities?"

"Don’t be afraid to spark those conversations around more responsible consumption. Share your knowledge with each other to create an opportunity for action."
