Thanks to everyone who came to see us at the Manchester Flower Show!

Thank you to everyone who came to visit us at the Manchester Flower Show over the jubilee weekend and tried out our new “Ready, Steady, Save” installation! We had a brilliant time chatting with everyone about our love of food, and sharing tips about how to make food go further.

We hope you’re getting on with your pledge, whether it’s keeping the lids on when cooking or storing your bread in the freezer to make it last longer.

For those who didn’t make it, here’s a roundup of our top tips we shared on making good food last, saving money in the kitchen and helping the planet along the way:

  • Know your labels: the best before date is about the quality of the food, while the use by date is about safety. You should not eat food past its use by date, but you can eat food past its best before date if it looks, smells and tastes fine.
  • Keep the lids on pans and pots while cooking on the hob – it’s faster and saves you cash!
  • Take a ‘shelfie’ of your cupboards before you go shopping to remind you of what you’ve got at home
  • Using the oven? Make the most of the heat and batch cook to save money on bills and save time
  • Eat what’s in season! We share a monthly round up of what’s in season each month across our social media channels
  • Swap some meat staples for delicious veggie ones: e.g. chickpeas or tofu instead of chicken, and lentils instead of mince Eat what you buy!
